The Gift Shop Building
The undeveloped acreage of pine, oak and manzanita covered mountain property, located four miles south of Julian had a two story building at the entrance of the property that was the Pinezanita Gift Shop. This building would become the registration office and camping store with restrooms and showers downstairs and a laundry room.
The original "Pinezanita Gift Shop" building has under gone major changes. In 1989 I reopened the gift store naming it "Rotten To The Core".... selling all those decorating items that you really don't need but want. After I moved with my husband to Honolulu, Mom used the store for a recreation and meeting room for groups. Now the area has been remodeled to hold more restrooms & showers and a television area for campers. |

The Residence
The large home that lies in the center of Pinezanita was created from a bunkhouse and shop used by nickel miners as late as 1947. The house was renovated by my parents, Uncle Floyd Slaton, Uncle Paul Wright, and my grandparents, LC and Jody Slaton. We used the house for weekend retreats from the city and then we were blessed to move in permanently in 1960. Our family lived in the house until 1972. I returned in 1987 to live in the house with my husband, Robert, and son, Jeff for four years, The house has been a rental since that time and is now divided in half forming two exquisite Overnight Rental Cabins. My mom has tried to keep the "You're A Guest In My Home" flavor... it's just like you came to spend the weekend at my Mom's house. |
